I'm AhmadZaki Kamel — a Saudi entrepreneur and thinker whose work sits at the intersection of food systems, cultural identity, and purposeful business. I founded Azka Foods out of a conviction that what we eat is inseparable from who we are, and that the Arab world's culinary heritage is one of its most undervalued assets.
My path has been shaped by a deep belief that entrepreneurship is a cultural act — not just an economic one. The businesses I build are attempts to answer questions I can't stop asking: How do we eat in a way that honours the land? What does it mean to build something that lasts? How do we carry tradition forward without freezing it?
I grew up between the farm and the city, between the ancient and the modern. That tension has never left me — and I've stopped trying to resolve it. Instead, I've learned to build from it.
What I believe
Roots before growth
The most durable things are built on deep foundations. I'm suspicious of speed that has no memory.
Food as philosophy
How a society eats reveals what it values. Changing the food system means changing the conversation about what matters.
Ideas as infrastructure
The most important work is often invisible — the thinking that makes everything else possible. I take ideas seriously.
Honesty over comfort
I'd rather say something true and difficult than something easy and hollow. This applies to business, writing, and conversation.
Background
Between farm and city
Raised in Saudi Arabia with early exposure to agriculture and the rhythms of the land. The farm was not a metaphor — it was a classroom.
Formal and informal
Studied business and entrepreneurship, but the most formative education came from building things, failing at them, and starting again.
Founding Azka Foods
Launched Azka Foods with a mission to reconnect consumers with ethically sourced, locally grown food — guided by Qur'anic principles of what it means to eat well.
Slow Food Saudi Arabia
Became a founding voice in the Saudi chapter of Slow Food International, advocating for culinary heritage preservation and sustainable food systems across the region.
Writing, speaking, building
Continuing to build ventures, develop ideas in public, and speak on entrepreneurship, food, and culture across the Arab world and beyond.
